Tonight we are concerned about our little man, Oscar. He’s just coming out of emergency surgery at the Coquitlam Central Emergency Clinic.
Oscar somehow got hold of a ball of yarn, and as cats are know to do, he ate a good portion of it. Yarns and cats do not mix. This morning we were awakened by a violently ill cat. Our house looked like a vomitorium. As today was Remembrance Day here in Canada (Veterans Day in the U.S.) his regular veterinarians were not available. So we called the emergency clinic and they suggested we bring him in.
What is Oscar?
No Linux nerds, I am not talking about Open Source Cluster Application Resources or OSCAR. I am talking about our kitty. Oscar is a 1 year 3 month old, domestic short-haired cat, black in color, focused in play and rather snobby in disposition, but snuggles when he wants to. If he could speak he would sound either like someone’s butler or Higgins from Magnum P.I. I’m sure if he had the dough he would belong to a snooty country club where he would chat about real estate all evening.
I had been told that the training procedure with cats was difficult. It’s not. Mine had me trained in two days. ~ Bill Dana
Oscar is the first cat that Carol has ever had and the 4th for me. He actually looks exactly like the black cat I had in my teens, named Popeye, right down to the little white sprigs of hair on his chest.
Being always a dog owner, Carol thought having a cat for a pet would be boring, like having a lizard or a snake. Wrong! Cats are fun. At least until the eat a bunch of yarn when you’re not looking and have to be taken to the hospital for surgery.
Anyway, the doctors seem to think he’s going to be fine. When Carol spoke to them a few minutes ago they said he was out of surgery and already coming around. A good sign. So on a day when we are to be grateful vets, in the form of veterans, we are also grateful for vets, as in veterinarians.
All that said, if you are into prayer or sending good vibes or anything of the sort, if you wouldn’t mind floating some Oscar’s way we sure would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
We have to get up early and go pick him up from the vet hospital, open all night, at 7:00 am. He will no doubt be sporting a cone and will require much nursing. Thankfully Carol is off work until next Monday so we will be able to take shifts to help our stoned and now very expensive little cat recuperate from his surgery.
Here’s a bonus picture of Oscar’s X-Ray:

You can’t really see a lot the yarn but I assure you it’s there.
My friend Andrea, after seeing this picture on Facebook, said:
I think I see the problem. Little tiny arrow head near the last rib.
Teehee! That did cheer me up a bit. Thanks Andrea.
Oscar is one of the reasons I have started blogging and taking more photos again. I love that he purrs when I pick him up and that he’s there to greet us when we come home.
Thank you Oscar!

Yes. Thank you Oscar. I’m removing and safely stowing all the yarn in the house ASAP. Sorry, little buddy.
Wynona and I are sending Oscar speedy recovery wishes and are grateful for the cool cat he is.
I am sending Oscar my best wishes!
Aw, I’m so relieved you laughed! The moment I hit ‘send’, I went…’Hold on – was that in poor taste??” Haha…
You’ll be amazed at how fast he’ll recover. Sassy, my 16 year old, had bladder surgery last year and I was all ready to be lifting her gently and carrying her on a golden pillow wherever she needed to go… and she was jumping up on the bed by herself just hours after I got her home. They are amazingly resilient critters.
(Also – another weird fact like our birthday thing: Sassy looks identical to the cat I had in MY teens, right down to the markings on the fur. Ooky spooky.
So glad Oscar’s coming around.
Absolutely sending good vibes your way – and Oscar’s way
Good connection between veterans and veterinarians – very clever!
Whew! I’m so glad Oscar is ok!!
Thanks everyone so much for the kind thoughts and words. Carol has blogged a bit of an update over on her site:
